Jupiter’s Cherry
12% ABV. | GLASS / GROWLERS / CROWLERS
Named for Jupiter Evans, an enslaved person born on the same Virginian plantation as his eventual master, Thomas Jefferson. Jupiter was involved with the cidermaking process at Monticello. Like so many slaves tasked with producing cider—from before the founding of this country until well after the Emancipation Proclamation—very little of Jupiter Evan's life is known. Sadly, so much of this history has been lost to time. Jupiter’s Cherry honors the unpaid labor of Jupiter and the innumerable black slaves on which the modern American cider industry is built. It is 91 North (our cider fermented with honey and raisins) which was then aged in Rye Barrels, after which it is blended with PA cherry juice. (Monticello is famous for its cherry trees.)
